An experiment to train artists in the US to work with less resources.
Curatorial statement:
In Central America, we are accustomed to work with what we have available to us - improvising tools or substituting materials due to the fact that we lack open accessibility to specialized art supplies, as is the case in the US. However, we like to view this lack of resources as strength, as an opportunity to enhance creativity by finding new solutions.
During my time in the US, I have witnessed a sudden change in the typical American approach to excess and availability of resources, while the word crisis surrounds us.
With Constraint, I would like to propose a creative exercise for artists to discover if it’s possible to make meaningful art with little money, taking the symbolic value of one hour’s work at minimum wage in the City of San Francisco. Eight projects will be executed with a $9.79 budget, with an emphasis on thrift and efficiency. If any money remains after the creation of these pieces, the remainder will be applied to the purchase of refreshments for the opening of the show.

En Centroamérica estamos acostumbrados a trabajar con lo que tenemos disponible, improvisando herramientas o sustituyendo materiales, puesto que no tenemos acceso a los materiales artisticos tan especificos que hay en Estados Unidos.
Sin embargo, nos gusta ver esta falta de recursos como una fortaleza, una oportunidad para ejercitar la creatividad encontrando nuevas soluciones.
En el tiempo que he estado viviendo en Estados Unidos, he sido testigo de un cambio repentino en la tradición norteamericana del exceso y acceso casi ilimitado a recursos en medio de la crisis mundial que nos rodea.
Con Constraint, quiero proponer un ejercicio creativo para artistas en Estados Unidos, para descubrir si es possible hacer arte significativo con poco dinero. Para esto tomo el valor simbólico del salario minimo por hora de la ciudad de San Francisco.
Ocho proyectos seran ejecutados con un presupuesto de $9.79 dólares cada uno, completando una jornada de trabajo, enfatizando en ahorro y eficiencia.
Si algo de dinero sobra despues de hacer los proyectos, se utilizará para la compra de alimentos y bebidas para la inauguración de la exhibición.

Usando anuncios clasificados en Craigslist, Carrie y Daniel consiguieron gratuitamente los elementos de su instalacion (exepto el vino, que compraron con el dinero que se les dió) e intentaron concertar una cita a ciegas. Ellos parecen preguntar ¿es posible comenzar una relación romántica con poco dinero?

Con el dinero presupuestado Darin compro un album usado de Bad Religion, el cual en los años dorados de las disqueras costaria unos 15 o 20 dls, no 10. Mientras él revive con nostalgia sus años como punk nos recuerda una industria decadente.
With the budget Darin bought a used Bad Religion album, wich in the golden years of Record companies would have costed 15 or 20 dls not 10. While he revives nostalgic his time as a punk, he reminds us of a decadent industry.
Tyrone Davies Extra Extra Value Meal.
While families strugle to buy the same food as they did before the resession, Tyron gets a "value meal" and tries to get the most out of it, eating it as many times as he could.
Mientras las familias tienen problemas para poder comprar la misma comida que antes de la recesión, Tyron compra un "value meal" (comida rapida de bajo precio) y trata de aprovecharla lo mas posible comiendola varias veces.
